About Me

I am an Assistant Researcher with the SONGS Marine Mitigation Monitoring Program at the Marine Science Institute, University of California, Santa Barbara. I co-lead the monitoring of two mitigation projects – an artificial reef and a restored coastal wetland – that were built to compensate for losses to kelp and fish resources due to the operation of the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant Units 2 & 3.

In this work, I build on my post-doctoral research on oyster reef restoration, which I completed with Max Castorani and Bo Lusk at the University of Virginia and the Nature Conservancy’s Virginia Coast Reserve. I gained my PhD in Ecology at the University of Georgia, where I worked with Jeb Byers to examine mechanisms and effects of mangrove expansion into salt marshes. I use a combination of field studies and laboratory experiments to address questions at the intersection of community ecology, invasion biology, and restoration ecology.
